Traditionally, Brazil imports of cod (*) and salmon from Norway. Now, the giant of Latin American economy will import the expertise of the giant fish aquaculture in Europe.

Under a agreement signed in early February 2011, Brazil and Norway have decided to unite their efforts to develop fisheries and aquaculture. An international seminar will be held in March 2011 in Manaus in the heart of the Amazon rainforest. ... Hence the Brazilian government will set its future aquaculture.

In Brazil, the development of aquaculture is recent. It concerns mainly shrimp, tilapia and shellfish (mussels and oysters). As in the rest of Latin, commercial aquaculture and industrial scale remains the dominant form for essentially saltwater species.

Nevertheless, there is enormous potential for development of fish farming in freshwater. Scale initiatives exist here and there in the Amazon. However, the largest river basin in the world offers a considerable potential for aquaculture fish ... could very well replaced raised beef after clearing of the rainforest!

In fact, Freshwater fish represent more than half of global aquaculture production. Followed by shellfish, crustaceans, etc. ...
